Man Sentenced for Kidnapping and Aggravated Sexual Assault at FDU

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando announce the sentencing of Jayshawn E. Moore, age 22, last known address of Jersey City, in connection with an April 9, 2023, incident at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park.
On April 12, 2024, the Hon. Stephen J. Taylor, P.J.Cr. imposed an aggregate sentence of 15 years New Jersey State Prison subject to 85% parole ineligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act. Moore was also ordered to register under Megan’s Law and will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life. Moore was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
On October 25, 2023, Moore had previously entered guilty pleas to first degree Kidnapping and first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault. Moore had been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility following his arrest on April 11, 2023.
On April 9, 2023, Moore, who is not affiliated with the University, forced an adult female victim known to him, into a dormitory room on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park. Once inside the room, he threatened the victim verbally, and he assaulted her physically and sexually over a number of hours. It is alleged that he was armed with a knife.
Moore was subsequently arrested in Elizabeth and charged by complaint-warrant.
Multiple law enforcement agencies contributed to this investigation and arrest, including the Florham Park Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit and Major Crimes Unit.
