Garfield Police Officer Charged With Assault by Auto and Driving While Intoxicated

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Chester Borough Police Chief David Jara      announce that Patrick R. Sajewicz, 22 years old, of Garfield, New Jersey has been charged with Assault by Auto; Driving While Intoxicated; Reckless Driving; and Careless Motor Vehicle Operation Causing Property Destruction.  Sajewicz is a Patrolman with the Garfield Police Department.
On October 15, 2014, the defendant was operating a 2014 Infinity when he allegedly failed to maintain control of the vehicle and crashed into a building on Main Street in Chester.  His passenger suffered injuries as a result of the crash.  The defendant was allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Sajewicz was arrested on October 20, 2014, following an investigation conducted by the Chester Borough Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutor Knapp would like to thank the Chester Borough Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section, and the members of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit whose efforts contributed to this arrest.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation.  Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he or she has been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
