Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Butler Police Chief Edward Card announced today that a Butler man was indicted after an investigation revealed that he allegedly pointed a loaded BB gun and threatened to shoot a 5-year-old victim.
Sean McNear, 45, of Butler, was indicted today on one count of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; one count of Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and one count of Fourth Degree Aggravated Assault.
The victim was five years old at the time of the incident, according to investigators. An investigation was launched in November 2011 by Detective Colleen Pascale of the Butler Police Department and Detective Anne-Marie Truppo of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office after the child disclosed to a teacher the defendant's alleged threatening conduct. The defendant was arrested on November 21, 2011.
These criminal charges are only accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Acting Prosecutor Knapp thanks Chief Card and the Butler Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit whose efforts contributed to this result.
