Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp announces today that a Morris County Jury found Reginald Limehouse, 36 years old, of Brooklyn, New York guilty of Uttering False Documents and Theft by Deception. The jury returned its verdict in less than one day of deliberations. Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Napurano represented the State in the trial which commenced on May 6, 2013.

On June 7, 2010, Limehouse entered the Target store in East Hanover and paid for $577.74 of merchandise with six counterfeit one hundred dollar bills. The bills were five dollar bills that were washed with bleach, commonly referred to as bleached 5s and reprinted with an image of a one hundred dollar bill on each side.

On a separate occasion, at a WalMart store on Route 22 in Union Township on June 12, 2010, the defendant attempted to purchase merchandise with six counterfeit one hundred dollar bills. The defendant used bills at both locations with identical serial numbers.

The defendant was apprehended by Officers from the Union Township Police Department after pushing a loss prevention agent and fleeing the WalMart. As a result of that incident, the defendant was charged with Uttering, Attempted Theft by Deception, Robbery and Resisting Arrest. Defendant later pled guilty on March 28, 2011 in Union County to one count of Attempted Theft by Deception and received a probationary sentence.

As a result of the arrest at the WalMart store in Union Township, authorities were able to identify the defendant as a suspect in the incident which took place at the Target store in East Hanover. The jury concluded it was the same individual and he knowingly used the counterfeit bills to purchase merchandise.

The defendant is extended term eligible and potentially faces serving ten years in New Jersey State Prison with five years parole ineligibility.

Acting Prosecutor Knapp thanks Chief Stanley J. Hansen and the East Hanover Police Department, the Union County Prosecutor's Office, the Union Township Police Department, the U.S. Department of Treasury (Secret Service), Special Agent in Charge James Mottola, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office General Investigations Unit whose efforts contributed to this result.

The Honorable Robert J. Gilson, J.S.C. revoked the defendant's bail after the guilty findings and remanded the defendant to the custody of the Morris County Correctional Facility pending sentencing. The defendant's sentencing is scheduled for June 14, 2013.
