Bloomfield Teacher Arrested for Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp announces the arrest of a Bloomfield public school teacher for possession and distribution of child pornography. 
 
Nicholas K. Schumacher, age 29, of Randolph, New Jersey was charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Distribution of Child Pornography), a crime of the second degree, and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Possession of Child Pornography), a crime of the third degree
 
The investigation commenced when the Morris County Prosecutor's Office received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that child pornography was being uploaded by the defendant.  More specifically, the email addresses and Internet Protocol addresses were being used from the defendant's residence in Randolph and also from his place of employment in Bloomfield, New Jersey.  The defendant is employed as a teacher with the Bloomfield Public School System. 
 
On August 21, 2015 bail was set at by the Honorable Ira Cohen, J.M.C. of the Randolph Municipal Court at $75,000.00 with no 10% option.  Conditions of that bail include: no contact with children under the age of 16, no possession of firearms, and surrender of the defendant's passport.  At an emergent bail hearing before the Honorable William McGovern, J.S.C., the defendant's bail was reduced to $50,000.00, all other bail conditions remain.
 
Prosecutor Knapp would like to thank the Randolph Police Department, the Bloomfield Police Department, the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
