Engineering & Transportation

About Us

We secure funding for road, bridge, railroad, bicycle, and pedestrian projects. We also plan, design, and coordinate transportation projects.

Engineering staff:
  • designs, constructs, re-constructs, and paves county roads.
  • bridge and culvert construction, drainage, and repair specifications
  • designs and constructs County building facilities and traffic signals on County roads

Transportation staff:
  • conduct studies and coordinate planning efforts with state agencies, municipalities, county departments, and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority
  • They also supervise three county-owned freight railroads.

The Morris County Board of Transportation advises the Division on its activities. It's appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

Center Grove and Quaker Church Road Intersection Improvements - Starts 5/28

Starting May 28, safety improvements will be made to the intersection of Center Grove Road (County Route 670) and Quaker Church Road in Randolph Township. Construction is expected to last six months, with lane closures from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. This project is being funded through the NJTPA's Local Safety Program and managed by Morris County. Read the Press Release for more information.

Lenape Island Bridge Study - Virtual Public Information Center Meeting - 6/10

Morris County is hosting a virtual Public Information Center meeting on June 10 to inform the public about a Local Concept Development (LCD) study for the Lenape Island Bridge over Indian Lake on Lenape Trail in Denville. The study's purpose is to identify and propose improvements to the bridge. This project is federally funded by the NJTPA working in cooperation with the NJDOT and the FHWA. Visit the project website for more information.

NJTPA Regional Active Transportation Plan

The NJTPA completed a Regional Active Transportation Plan for northern and central New Jersey. The goal of this plan is to help establish a safe and functional regional network of pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Visit the project website to see the plan.

Construction begins on NYS&W Bicycle and Pedestrian Path

Construction has begun on the NYS&W Bicycle and Pedestrian Path, a 4.8 mile trail project to repurpose an abandoned stretch of railroad into a non-motorized recreational path from Pequannock Township to Wayne. Read the County press release for more information.
