DEP Extends Application Deadline to Oct. 23
The Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards recognize individuals, businesses, institutions, communities, organizations, educators, youth and others who have made significant contributions to environmental protection in New Jersey. The state Department of Environmental Protection has extended the deadline this year for nominations to Oct. 23.
The annual awards recognize outstanding environmental performance, programs and projects around New Jersey. Since its establishment in 2000, the program has honored 189 winners for their environmental achievements.
There have been several winners from Morris County in recent years, including Mountain Lakes’ Garden Magic LLC in the Water Resources category, Parsippany based Wyndham Worldwide as winner in the Sustainable Businesses Category, Morris County government in the Land Conservation category for the Morris County Flood Mitigation Program, and the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee won in the Water Conservation category for its watershed protection and restoration efforts.
Nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23 in the categories of Climate Change and Clean Air, Water Resources, Health Ecosystems and Habitats, Landowner of the Year, Healthy and Sustainable Communities, Healthy and Sustainable Businesses, and two categories in Environmental Education: Educator-Led and Student-Led Projects.
The awards program is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank and the New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology, in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.
