Serving the Counties of Morris, Sussex and Warren, New Jersey

The Office serves approximately 750,000 residents in the three counties with approximately 1,600 reported cases each year, in which approximately 500 cases are accepted for examination.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • The applicant will investigate and determine the cause and manner of deaths that fall under the jurisdiction of the Morris County Medical Examiner’s office, including Morris, Sussex and Warren Counties.
  • This includes the supervision of Medical Examiner Investigators on scene investigations, photos, and reports; perform scene investigations as needed; perform external investigations and autopsies on accepted cases;
  • Supervise morgue technicians; complete examination reports in a timely manner; cooperate with other agencies/divisions as needed including attending meetings and teaching sessions; provide testimony at depositions and trials as required.


  • American Board of Pathology certification in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic/Clinical pathology and Forensic Pathology;
  • Minimum of 5 years forensic pathology practice experience; testimony experience in a minimum of 50 court cases;
  • Medical licensure in the State of New Jersey; possession of a New Jersey Driver’s license.

About the Office and Region:  The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office (MCMEO) is located in the Morris County Public Safety Complex  in Parsippany, New Jersey. The examination facility is jointly shared with the Atlantic Health Systems, Morristown Medical Center. Forensic anthropology, forensic odontology, surgical pathology consultations with surrounding hospital facilities including the New Jersey Rutgers School of Medicine are readily available.

Salary:  The salary for this position is commensurate with experience.  The County offers a comprehensive benefit package.
