The difficult topic of suicide will be the focus of an upcoming event in Jefferson, as part of the countywide Stigma-Free initiative to foster treatment and recovery for persons dealing with mental illness and substance use issues.
On Saturday, May 18 a Hike to Fight Suicide will be held at Camp Jefferson in Jefferson Township/Lake Hopatcong. Registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. The hike begins at 10 a.m. Register here.
Choose from two hikes; all levels of hikers are welcome. An easy hike around a lake and a more moderate course are offered. Friendly dogs on leases are welcome.
The event is sponsored by JT Connect and The Mayor’s Wellness Campaign. For more information, email [email protected].
The goal of JT Connect is to engage and unify the community through a philosophy of mental health awareness, wellness, recovery and support. The group formed in 2011 in response to the impact of one too many suicides in the community. This project includes volunteers from all backgrounds.
The name JT Connect signifies the need to “connect” the community by raising awareness about mental health, erasing stigma and providing acceptance and support so people in need are willing to reach out for help.
