Between scenes set in the child’s bedroom in Acorn Hall, a make up artist works with actress Alivia Clark.

From creator/director Tim Janis, and just in time for the holidays, this is a tale of two orphans whose chance encounter with two strangers change their lives forever, and demonstrates that sometimes believing can be the greatest adventure of all.

Partially filmed at Acorn Hall in 2015 and 2016, the film is narrated by Robert Redford and Kate Winslet. It features Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, Jane Seymour, Roma Downey, Ioan Gruffudd, Katie McGrath, Robert Picardo, Charles Shaughnessy, and includes a song, “Nova,” that was written by Paul McCartney.

“Buttons” is set in the late 19th Century and, in trying to meet the filming needs of a busy bi-coastal cast, MCHS was contracted because Acorn Hall offered exactly the backdrop the producers were looking for – authentic, no less.

“It was a pure pleasure working with Tim and getting the opportunity to meet Alivia, Julia, Katie, and Robert,’’ said MCHS Executive Director Amy Curry. “They were so respectful of the Hall’s history and truly seemed to enjoy the historic setting. We are so excited for all their success in bringing this to the theaters!”

“Buttons” will be shown in more than 500 select theaters at 12:55 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, including in Westfield and Cranford. For a complete list of theaters, visit the Fathom Events website. Tickets can be purchased at and participating theater box offices.

The film will support Kate Winslet’s Golden Hat Foundation, an autism non-profit organization whose mission is to change the way those diagnosed with autism are perceived.
