Jersey Central Power & Light has activated its storm restoration plan, opened its Emergency Command Center, initiated the Incident Command System and is responding to power outages as a result of today’s storm.
The outages are occurring primarily in Morris, Hunterdon, Sussex and Warren County areas of northern New Jersey where heavy wet snow has been falling. JCP&L crews are working to restore customers as safely and quickly as possible, however weather and travel conditions remain difficult.
Company meteorologists continue to monitor the storm’s path as it moves across the region. Conditions vary across the JCP&L service area with winds and snow in northern New Jersey and winds and rain in central New Jersey.
Customers should report any downed wires to the company, or their local police and fire department and never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity. Extra caution should be used in areas where downed lines are tangled in trees or other debris.
To report power outages customer should call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), or click the “Report Outage” link at www.firstenergycorp.com..
