MORRIS COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS NEEDS YOUR HELP TO SOLVE THIS CASE — Reward Offered
On March 6, at 1:45am, the Randolph Township Police Department responded to the intersection of Park Avenue and James Roard on a report of suspicious activity. Patrol officers found the department’s solar powered speed display unit, used for traffic control, in pieces on the ground.
Police think a disc grinder style tool was utilized to raze the sign, severing the two “u-channel” steel posts that supported the device. The grinder was used on the speed display, sign and solar unit, rendering the device inoperable.
Surveillance video shows sparks flying during the incident and witnesses have been able to provide some details. The traffic device is valued at more than $3,600
CrimeStoppers also featured two Randolph Crime of the Weeks in 2015 regarding traffic devices: in April 2015, a traffic device was damaged, and in August 2015, a traffic device was stolen. Both cases remain unsolved.
