Pat Maynard

Patricia J. Maynard, beloved wife, mother and friend, lost her 9-year battle against ovarian cancer in Chapel Hill, NC on April 15, 2017.  She is survived by her husband of 62 years Eugene, son, Mark, daughter Meghan and grandchildren Lauren and Carolyn Maynard.

Pat was born May 24, 1934 to parents Victor and Wanda Jewell in Indiana. She attended University of Illinois where she met her husband. After living in various locations in Europe and the Midwest, they settled in Mendham, New Jersey in 1970.

Pat was a long time public servant and was passionate about public service and helped to maintain and improve the cultural and educational opportunities and the quality of life in her many roles in Morris County.

Pat was elected into the Mendham Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of all her contributions.  She served as a wonderful role model for other woman in public service.

Maynard served as a member of the Mendham Township Committee from 1974-1978 and was Deputy Mayor from 1976-1978.  She served as a Morris County Freeholder from 1978-1984 and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Legislative Liaison from 1984-1996.

Her many other civic activities include the Morris County 9/11 Memorial Committee, Morris County Library Foundation and Trustee of the Morris Museum, Ralston Mill, County College of Morris Foundation and NJ US Olympic Committee to name a few.

She was a long-time organist at Grace Lutheran Church in Mendham and a favorite substitute teacher at West Morris Regional High School System. Pat and Gene lived in Mendham until 2016 when they moved to Chapel Hill to be close to their daughter.  She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be sorely missed.  Services will be announced.
