The original Star Trek TV series debuted in 1966 and ran for three seasons,  following the Starship Enterprise and characters with names that are now part of American entertainment lore: Kirk, Spock, Scotty, McCoy (Bones), Sulu, Uhura, and Checkov.

Four spin-off television series later followed, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise, in addition to a continuing series of films and a new TV Star-Trek scheduled for 2017.
