Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp and Rockaway Township Police Chief Martin McParland, Jr. announce that Debra Boucher, 62, of Rockaway Township has been charged with Death by Auto, a crime of the second degree, as a result of a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday, June 26, in Rockaway Township, and in which her son was killed.
Additionally, she had been charged with various motor vehicle summons, including Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Intoxicated in a School Zone, Failure to Maintain Lanes, failure to Wear Safety Equipment, Careless Driving and Reckless Driving.
Superior Court Judge James DeMarzo today authorized a warrant-complaint charging Boucher with Death by Auto. Bail was set at $200,000 with no ten percent option.
The charge is in connection with a serious motor vehicle collision on Sunday at approximately 9:41 p.m. The single vehicle accident occurred in the area of 21 Upper Hibernia Road, Rockaway Township. The vehicle was a 2001 red Chevrolet, which was driven by Debra Boucher. The disabled vehicle was located on Upper Hibernia Road in Rockaway.
In addition to Debra Boucher, there was one additional occupant of the vehicle, who was identified as James Boucher, 40, the son of Debra Boucher. Both occupants sustained serious bodily injuries. James Boucher was transported via helicopter to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. Debra Boucher also was transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
On June 29, 2016, James Boucher was subsequently pronounced deceased.
This matter continues to be investigated by the Rockaway Township Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
The charges and allegations are merely accusations, and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
