The Morris County Courthouse in Morristown has been closed for the rest of the day today (Tuesday) due to a power outage caused by a motor vehicle crash that took down some key power lines that provide electricity to the courthouse complex.
The crash, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m., eliminated power to the historic County Courthouse on Court Street in Morristown. It also shut down the courts located across the street in the County Administration and Records Building because the computer systems that are essential to court operations were without power.
Courts will open again on Wednesday morning at regular opening time. Persons with matters that have been postponed due to the outage should check with the courts in the morning.
The power outage did not have any effect on the Morris County Surrogate Court, Morris County Clerk, Morris County Freeholders and other county government operations.
