The Morris County Freeholders, in concert with the Morris County Library Foundation, have approved the dedication of the Children’s Room at the Morris County Library in honor of the late Morris County Clerk and Freeholder Joan Bramhall.
The Foundation also has announced that it will present a special $5,000 grant to the library in Bramhall’s honor, to be used for materials and programs that will supplement the existing collection and items in the Children’s Room.
Bramhall, the founding chairwoman of the Library Foundation, was a staunch supporter of library services, and for many years dedicated her time and efforts to raise money to enhance the services and programs offered at this county jewel. The Denville resident passed away last year.
At a planned April 23 dedication ceremony at the county library in Hanover Township, a bronze plaque in Bramhall’s honor that was commissioned by the Library Foundation will be presented to her family and subsequently be placed at the entrance to the reading room. The plaque will include a quote from Bramhall: “Fine libraries exist with public funds; but it is through private funds that they are able to flourish.’’
“The freeholders are proud to support the dedication of the Children’s Room at the Morris County Library in honor of Joan Bramhall,’’ said Freeholder Tom Mastrangelo, the freeholder board’s liaison to the county library. “She worked hard to help make it a terrific facility for all residents, and especially for the children of our county.’’
“Joan Bramhall was a great advocate and supporter of the county library, who worked hard to make it a premiere facility for our county,’’ said Freeholder Douglas Cabana. “This is a great and deserving honor for Joan and her family.’’
“The Morris County Library Foundation is gratified to be able to recognize the vision and foresight of Joan Bramhall in founding our organization,’’ said current Foundation President Bud Jones. “Because Joan had a special place in her heart for children, it is so meaningful that the freeholders are honoring Joan’s memory by naming the Children’s Room for her. We are very pleased to provide a special grant to the library in Joan’s honor to provide additional enhancements for children in recognition of this dedication.”
The Mission of the Morris County Library Foundation is to support and enhance the activities and programs of the Morris County Library. Its main objectives are to:
· Supplement acquisition of library materials to enhance children’s services and adult literacy
· Enhance educational and promotional activities developed by the Morris County Library
· Support special projects hosted by the Morris County Library
The Foundation can attract private funding and endowments that can finance modern and diverse state-of-the-art resources. The Morris County Library Foundation administers and manages the endowment fund account. Gifts to the Foundation are deductible for income tax purposes.
The Foundation’s proposed childrens’ projects for 2015 include a family art program, a science storytelling program, a “magic’’ of reading show, an interactive concert for kids, an up close and personal reptiles presentation, plus poetry and summer reading club contests.
