Michael Peoples, director of the Morris County Communications Center, said verification by the team that the Morris County Communications Center meets the commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation, a highly regarded recognition of public safety excellence.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments by calling 973-682-8820 on Wednesday, March 18 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Comments will be taken by the assessment team.

The Morris County Communications Center has to comply with 213 standards in order to gain accreditation status.
The CALEA program manager for the Morris County Communications Center is Dennis Snyder. The assessment team is composed of public safety practitioners from similar, but-out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and observe emergency communications operations where compliance to applicable standards can be witnessed and verified.
The assessors are Susan Wales (ret.) of the Salisbury, North Carolina Police Department and Deputy Chief Michael Rivas of the Wood Dale, Illinois Police Department. Once the CALEA assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accreditation status.
Accreditation is for four years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
