Morris County residents in need of shelter may go to the Mennen Arena on Hanover Avenue in Morris Township. Shower facilities are available there, and the Arena is pet-friendly for county residents seeking shelter there.
The County Animal Response Team, or CART, is an evacuation unit specially built for pets. The unit, which is heated, has crates for the pets and can accommodate up to 70 non-aggressive animals.
There is no drop off of pets. In order to use the animal sheltering, an owner must be using the Mennen Arena for shelter, and will be responsible for the animal during the time of sheltering.
Guests will be responsible for their own pet food and water, and all dogs must be leash walked as often as possible. An owner will have to show ID when taking his or her pet out of its cage and all pet waste has to be picked up and disposed of properly.
The Mennen Arena is being used as a temporary shelter, and pets will not be able to be accommodated after the shelter is closed.
The Morris Township Office of Emergency Management and its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) assisted in putting up the animal shelter.
Additional information may be obtained by calling the Morris County Office of Emergency Management at (973) 829-8600 and ask to speak with a human services representative.
