Disaster Unemployment Assistance is now available in New Jersey for individuals affected by Hurricane Sandy.
According to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, individuals who may not be eligible for regular unemployment assistance, including the self-employed, may be eligible for DUA.
There is a 30-day deadline to apply. However, since the filing deadline for several counties, including Morris has not yet been established, the department urges individuals to apply as soon as possible.
Individuals can file initial DUA benefits claims online at www.njuifile.net.
Claims may also be filed by phone in North Jersey at 201-601-4100; in Central Jersey at 732-761-2020; and in South Jersey at 856-507-2340.
More information on Disaster Unemployment Assistance can be found at http://lwd.dol.state.nj.us/labor/ui/aftrfile/dua.html.
The first possible week of DUA compensation begins the first week following the date the major disaster began, which in the case of Hurricane Sandy, is the week of Sunday 10/28/2012 to Saturday 11/3/2012.
