The Morris County Library is hosting volunteers from the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program who are offering free tax help for taxpayers who qualify.

The VITA Program generally offers free basic tax return preparation to people who make $50,000 a year or less and who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. The tax returns are e-filed.

Trained VITA volunteers will be at the county library from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24; Saturday, March 31; Saturday, April 7; Monday, April 9; and Saturday, April 14.

The IRS-certified volunteers can also inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.

It is recommended that individuals seeking assistance in filling out their tax returns make an appointment by calling 973-538-3451 before going to the library.

The Morris County Library is located at 30 East Hanover Avenue in Whippany.
