The Morris County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans in the county’s Department of Human Services is preparing to distribute thousands of American flags to veteran organizations for the purpose of honoring Morris County’s deceased veterans at their resting place in various county cemeteries for Memorial Day 2011.

Volunteers from organizations including American Legion Posts, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Jewish-American War Veterans and other veteran groups place the flags on the grave sites of known veterans each May as a fitting tribute to their comrades-in-arms.

“Placing a flag at the grave site of a veteran is a solemn way of honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country,” said Charles Jurgensen, Morris County Veterans Services Coordinator. “Morris County is proud to collaborate in this effort.”

Jurgensen said all flag allotments will be distributed from the county’s Human Services Building, 340 West Hanover Ave., in Morris Township.

Organizations wishing to receive flags should call Jurgensen at 973-285-6866 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to schedule a pick up date.
