The Morris County Library is inviting budding young poets to participate in the library’s 10th Annual Children’s Poetry Contest.

April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate, the county library’s Children’s Services section is sponsoring the contest for youngsters in grades one through seven.

A student’s original poem may be typed or handwritten and may be dropped off at the county library in Whippany or mailed to the Children’s Department, Morris County Library, 30 East Hanover Ave., Whippany, N.J., 07981. Students may also access the county library Web site, and enter online.

All poems must be accompanied by an entry cover sheet, which is also available online.

The poems will be judged according to three age groups, with two winners each selected from the submissions from first and second graders; third and fourth graders; and fifth, sixth and seventh graders. The winners will be announced at a special children’s poetry reading and awards ceremony at the library on May 24.

Additional information about the children’s poetry contest may be obtained by calling the library’s Children’s Room at 973-285-6980.
