The Morris County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans Services is warning veterans to be wary of any organization seeking to obtain their personal information.

Division Director Theresa Davis said the United States Veterans Administration has issued an advisory to all veterans warning them about organizations with names similar to “Veterans Affairs” or “Veterans Services,” which offer general
information on VA benefits.

The VA is concerned that these organizations that are not affiliated with the federal government may also be collecting personal information from veterans for other uses, Davis said. She cautions veterans and their families to safeguard their personal information and privacy.

“Do not give out personal information via e-mail or telephone solicitation from any organization,” Davis said. “Remember, the VA Office will not randomly call veterans and ask for personal information.”

Veterans or their family members who have examples of wrongdoing by any organization claiming to help veterans should forward the information to the Morris County Veterans Office at 973-285-6866.
