The smell of sugar abounds as you enter a kingdom of imagination and candy known as Gingerbread Wonderland at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morris Township.

This Morris County Park Commission holiday tradition features handmade gingerbread creations made by creative adults, children, families, schools and scout troops.

Past Gingerbread Wonderlands have included such elaborate scrumptious structures as the White House, Notre Dame Cathedral and scenes from Harry Potter.

This year’s Gingerbread Wonderland runs from Saturday, Dec. 4 through Sunday, Dec. 12, and will be open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10. A new feature this year is a craft show on weekends.

Groups of eight or more are welcome, but must make reservations by calling at 973-326-7601. Strollers are not permitted in the exhibit hall.

The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is located at 53 East Hanover Ave., in Morris Township. For more information, please visit the Park Commission Web site, or call 973-326-7601.
