The Morris County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans in the county’s Department of Human Services is preparing to distribute approximately 30,000 American flags to veteran organizations for the purpose of honoring Morris County deceased veterans at their resting place in various county cemeteries for Memorial Day 2010.

Volunteers from organizations including American Legion Posts, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Jewish-American War Veterans and other veteran groups place the flags on known veteran grave sites each May as a tribute to their comrades-in-arms.

“Placing a flag at the grave site of a veteran is a solemn way of honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country,” said Mary Jo Buchanan, director of the Department of Human Services. “Morris County is proud to collaborate in this effort.”
