On May 18, 2015, the Eagle Rock Avenue Bi-County Bridge will close after the morning rush hour, and re-open on or about September 18, 2015.
Due to the advanced deterioration of the superstructure, the County requested that Konkus Corporation, the contractor for the project, provide an accelerated construction schedule that would include a complete bridge closure. Konkus has proposed a four-month schedule in order to complete all construction work and their plan was presented to officials on May 1st. The Township of East Hanover, the Borough of Roseland, and Essex County have agreed to this accelerated time frame with a full bridge closure.
Originally anticipated to be a twelve-month project in 2012, the project was postponed due to utility relocation work and the replacement of a bridge on Route 10.
The shared construction cost between Essex and Morris County is $2,183,746.46. Morris County is the lead agency administering the project.
The proposed detour will be approximately five miles, utilizing Eisenhower Parkway (609), Route 280, and Ridgedale Avenue (632) as alternate routes.
