The session is designed to let county residents and mayors and other public officials from all 39 Morris County municipalities have a say in the budget-making process, to state concerns, make recommendations, and ask questions of the freeholders’ budget subcommittee, and its financial and senior staff.
Freeholders Kathy DeFillippo, Christine Myers and Hank Lyon, who comprise the subcommittee, will be joined by the county’s professional staff at the session.
“We have been asked by some of our residents to include the public in the budget process before the budget is finalized, to give them some insight into how we are progressing, and to give them a chance to have a say in what we are considering and to provide their advice to the board,’’ said Freeholder Director DeFillippo. “We plan to give them an opportunity to do just that, and urge interested residents to attend,’’ she added.
Key documents, including the 2015 budget and a synopsis of anticipated 2016 budget needs and issues, will be made available to residents prior to the meeting.

The Freeholders in 2015 adopted a $329.4 million budget, with a total tax effort that is the same as 2014 at $217.9 million. For a third consecutive year that budget offered a zero percent increase in county taxes, while maintaining critical services for county residents.
The special budget meeting will be held in the freeholders 5th floor public meeting room at the Morris County Administration and Records Building, 10 Court Street, Morristown, N.J. 07963. Residents should be aware they must go through a first floor security screening process.
